The SBA has launched a new Web site to assist small businesses in determining the risks of doing business overseas. The Website, www.AssessYourInternationalRisk.org, has been developed in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. A spokesman said the initiative would "provide small business owners with the information they need to make smart decisions concerning overseas expansion, and how to address the risks inherent in entering the international marketplace."
The Web site features a convenient ask-the-expert option where small business owners can ask questions about the risks of doing business overseas. The website fills an important gap. A lack of knowledge may needlessly stifle or jeopardize a company's expansion, according to the SBA.
The Web site initiative is related to work being done by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to boost participation by American small businesses in new international trade agreements. It is part of the Chamber's TradeRoots program to educate and help build capacity for small and medium sized businesses to start exporting under new trade agreements with Chile and Singapore. The Chamber's approach is to support individual states' trade development programs and encourage regional cooperation.
